Pop Star (day 6)

Dave was unable to resist playing the guitar. Now everyone will realise we're pop stars. I just knew the peace wouldn't last. Started out at 05.30hrs this morning and within half an hour we had reached the junction with the Trent and Mersey canal at Great Haywood. Whilst taking on water we pondered the day ahead and decided a call at Stone, for yet more provisions, was needed. After moving for a couple of hours or so we found a spot to moor and have breakfast. Latest weather is rain pm. Not a problem. We have all the wet weather gear we need.

The contours of this canal mean there are few straight lines. Unlike the Shroppie where the cut and fill method of construction between Nantwich and Autherley gave us far distant views of the waterway before us

The railway line between Stoke and Stafford kept us company for a few miles. It was busy as well as interesting to see this running alongside the canal in reasonable harmony. A far cry from the past when the railway companies were enemies of the canals and the reason for loss of trade and many a closure. How could canals possibly compete with the speed of the freight trains. Strange how times have changed in respect of closures. What of the future? - best that we don't know
